The nail scissors are suitable for small pets as e.g. cats, small dogs, rodents or birds. They are fitted with plastic coated handles. A responsible-minded pet owner is always aware of that the pet’s claws are not too long as they can cause pain when the dog moves and thus cause a bad posture.
When walking or running on hard grounds the claws normally shorten themselves (cats sharpen their claws at the outside or on cat furniture). Nevertheless it might be necessary to support the nail care.
When you shorten the nails please take care of that they will not be cut too short as nerves and blood vessels run through them. When you cut them too much this causes pain and if the worst comes to the worst it might cause an inflammation.
The best thing is to ask your veterinary surgeon for advice and maybe he can show you how to shorten the nails professional so that you will be able to do it on your own in the future.
